FUND A HAWK PROGRAM

Program Overview

The Fund a Hockey Hawk in Need program is designed to support HAHA-registered youth players whose families are experiencing financial hardship. Our goal is to ensure every child has the opportunity to play hockey safely and enjoyably, regardless of financial circumstances.

Program Purpose

This fund, established under the Hermantown Youth Hockey Association, allows individuals and businesses in our community to contribute to the success and well-being of young Hawks and their families. Donations can be made anonymously or designated for specific uses. Funds will be distributed to support players in need, as outlined in the guidelines below.

Program Administration

  • The program is overseen by a President and an Executive Director, who are responsible for reviewing and approving financial assistance applications.
  • These individuals are not members of the HAHA Board and are the only ones with access to applicant identities, ensuring confidentiality.

Program Guidelines & Assistance Policy

Eligibility

  • Assistance is available only to families with players registered in the Hermantown Youth Hockey Association.

Application Process

  • Families must complete the Fund a Hockey Hawk in Need Application Form.
  • Incomplete applications will be returned.

Funding Availability

  • Total assistance awarded depends on available funds.
  • If a family receives equipment through the program but does not complete the season, the equipment must be returned for future use.

Duration of Assistance

  • Assistance is intended for temporary financial hardship and is limited to two years per skater.
  • Priority is given to families who qualify for public assistance programs (e.g., free/reduced lunch, medical assistance, unemployment).

What Assistance Covers

  • HAHA registration fees
  • Equipment necessary for safe play
  • Note: USA Hockey and MN Hockey fees, as well as HAHA fundraising obligations and incidental team expenses, are not covered.

Volunteer Commitment

  • Families receiving assistance may be asked to contribute additional volunteer hours.
  • These hours will be documented and agreed upon with the Program Director and are in addition to HAHA’s standard volunteer requirements.

Review Meeting

  • Applicants must meet with the Program Director to review their application.
  • Failure to meet obligations may result in ineligibility for future assistance.
