What is a Team Manager
A Team Manager is a volunteer parent/guardian that assists the coach/assistant coach of each hockey team. The Team Manager is the liaison between the parents, coaches, scheduling coordinator, and the HAHA Board.
Team managers may be responsible for:
❏ Printing and maintaining the official team roster
❏ Supplying scorebooks to scorekeepers (HAHA to supply)
❏ Creating and distributing game labels
❏ Getting GameSheets up and running
❏ Coordinating team volunteers
❏ Collecting team fees
❏ Assisting with level home tournament planning
❏ Assisting with level/team clothing orders
❏ Other duties as necessary
Tournaments: Tournaments are first selected by the Level Coordinators. In most cases, HAHA coordinators will schedule one tournament for each team and also allow the team to choose one more tournament that HAHA will pay for. Please check with your level coordinator to confirm tournaments signed up for. Additional tournaments that teams choose to enter will have to split up the cost throughout the team.
Tournaments may be found in current editions of Let’s Play Hockey Website (www.waha-hockey.com), or MN Hockey website (www.minnesotahockey.org/directory). Before scheduling tournaments, you should be aware of your currently scheduled league games, scrimmages, practices, in-house tournaments. Once you have determined what dates your team will be available for a tournament, locate tournaments that would fit into your schedule and make contact with the appropriate people listed for more information.
Scrimmages: A scrimmage/controlled scrimmage does not count in this total if the game is used as a coaching tool for teaching position play and address various game situations and the following are met:
a. At least one coach from each team must be on the ice for the purpose of instruction.
b. No official scorekeeper, timekeeper or “game clock” can be used.
c. Teams can switch ends at some point, if desired.
d. The event is conducted as a practice, with the coaches stopping play from time to time to make observations and provide instruction on player positioning, etc.
➔ Coaches and/or team managers can seek out other teams to play to meet their level game limit.
➔ Any extra games need to be scheduled through Melissa Buck if HAHA will be coordinating the game. If the game is scheduled outside of the Hermantown/Duluth area, the “home” team would coordinate the ice time with their ice coordinator.
➔ Any extra games (tournaments, scrimmage, non-league game) need to be communicated to the Ice Scheduler so they can add it to the master schedule for parents to be able to access.
❏ Assist with scheduling dryland practices -Community people can schedule to use the gym throughout the year -The facilities request guidance can be found here.
❏ Communicate on a regular basis with the parents on your team. -included but not limited to: *weekly schedule for practices *cutoff dates for tournament travel arrangements *paperwork that needs to be completed *fees needed *picture dates *clothing orders *tournament info
Zero/Hat Trick/Playmaker Patches: USA Hockey/MN Hockey recognizes individual achievement with a patch for the following:
➔ Zero Award: For goalkeeper playing a complete game without allowing a goal.
➔ Hat Trick Award: For player scoring three goals in a game.
➔ Playmaker Award: For a player registering three assists in a game.
**This applies to only District games
**Some teams order these for their players and there is no charge. Please keep a copy of the score sheet showing any of these accomplishments, as it will need to be turned in to order the award at the end of the season
Grievances
Unfortunately, issues may arise from parents, kids, coaches or various outside issues. Below are the proper steps to help resolve.
❏ Handle at the team level. Following the 24-hour rule parties meet and try and resolve.
❏ If above is not an option, contact the level coordinator. He/she will work with all parties to resolve it. Level Coordinators are listed on the HAHA website, under Board, and committees.
❏ If level director is not available or unable to resolve the issue, please contact any other board member to express your concern.
THANK YOU
You will not hear this enough this year, so we want to be the first to say this. This entire association is run and organized by volunteers like you. Enjoy your season and good luck.
